Recommended reading: the best and the worst health articles today

For whatever reason, I found myself reading a bunch of articles in the Health & Science section of the Washington Post today. Two articles stood out for me as the best and worst of the articles. I'll hit you with the worst first.
The worst: "Less intense but longer-lasting exercise may be better than strenuous workouts"

The gist of this article was that longer bouts of slow exercise, paired with multiple hours of not sitting is more beneficial for overall health than a short, very intense bout of exercise, paired with a lot of sitting.

My take: well, duh. In my opinion, the money spent on this study could have found a better home.

The best: "10 tips for healthy meals"

This article really should be called "10 tips for what not to do so that you can eat healthy".

Regardless, for once, I agree with all ten of the tips in this article. I only took one exception: in tip 7 (Preparing fat-free salads) they suggest adding canola oil on your salad rather than low-fat or fat-free dressing.

I completely agree with ditching low-fat and fat-free dressings (these dressings just add chemicals to replace the fat, which is the exact opposite of eating healthy). Instead, I recommend that you use an extra-virgin olive oil-based dressing mix instead of one based with canola oil on your salad.

As a bonus, if you want to read a really scary article about doctors and their anger management issues, read this article: "How to curb out-of-control doctors".

Happy reading.
