Recommended drinking: the Dogfish Head IPA

This is for anyone planning to head out to the bars tonight to tie one on for the annual St. Patrick's Day drinkfest. That is, if you haven't decided to just keep going after the St. Patrick's Day parade downtown (usually pronounced "dahntahn" in Pittsburgh).

Should you find that you've had your fill of Guiness and Irish Car Bomb specials, but you haven't quite had enough of liquid carbs yet, consider something a little different from this side of the pond: the Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA.

For anyone who saw the film Beer Wars, Dogfish Head should be a familiar name. Based in the Rehoboth Beath area of Delaware, Dogfish Head likes to make highly original beers and spirits. I like the logo quite a lot, too.
I tried out the 60 Minute IPA shortly after watching Beer Wars, and I was instantly sold. The 90 Minute IPA is the predecessor to the 60 Minute IPA. I also like that one, but it's more sudsy that I usually prefer.

The 60 Minute IPA is distinctly different from many other beers because of it's hoppy start and citrusy finish. It has a distinct taste of grapefruit, which definitely works with the hoppiness of the beer.

What does "IPA" mean? "IPA" stands for India Pale Ale. It refers to a specific subset of pale ale that was originally brewed in England and exported to colonial India. (Here's the Wikipedia article, if you'd like more on the history.)

What food does the 60 Minute IPA go with? Just about anything. But, here are some specific food pairing suggestions from their site: spicy foods, pesto, grilled salmon, soy-based dishes, pizza, vintage cheddar.

So, really, vegan food, not vegan food, or bar food. It all works with the 60 Minute IPA. It goes down smooth and never leaves you hanging. Drink up!
